Rona came in and shut some stuff down y’all, were you one? Of course, there are many angles I can obviously discuss Covid-19, but right now there’s only one and I want to know did you self-check?
The government along with CDC mandated that we would quarantine and shelter in place and for some of us that meant “stay away” from the world. While it may be effortless to think distancing ourselves 6 feet from our neighbor was an easy task, I think I’d be negligent to say I didn’t notice it being a taxing task for many. Extroverted or Introverted at some point we want and need to feel connected.
“You can’t get away from yourself by moving from one place to another.”– Ernest Hemingway
Whether you’re extroverted always looking to connect with people and know your friends better than you know yourself or introverted so much so that you’ve shut down and have locked yourself up mentally and emotionally to the point that it is hard for you to connect with anything and anyone at all, keep reading.
While being recommended to shelter in place we still have regular tasks we must tend to even if we don’t have to attend work daily. I want to let you in on a-not-so-secret and that is we are ALL essential workers that share the same job and that is we must partake in self-care.
“Self-care is important because that brings self-awareness and self-awareness is important because it tells you how to self-care.”-Me
Have you grown 6 feet apart from yourself while quarantined?
You see, just because you spend time with yourself doesn’t mean you’re self aware and just because you love spending time with people doesn’t mean you aren’t however while being quarantined many of you are so consumed with checking in on your loved ones or checking for virus symptoms that you simply forgot to check on yourself.
“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.”– Ralph Ellison
I simply want to remind you that you do not have to feel guilty for continuing self-care or becoming self-aware during this unprecedented time, in fact, be even more intentional about doing so.
Here are two things you can do to become self-aware?
1.Name everything that is wrong with you.
2. Label everything that is RIGHT with you.
Determining weaknesses shouldn’t discourage you, but motivate you instead. An area for improvement, leaves a wide opportunity for growth. Don’t you want to flourish in your relationships, businesses, thoughts and perceptions? At The PK RoundTable we are sticklers for having hard conversations that provoke healing and we are definitely advocates for these conversations starting first with ourselves.
“Self-awareness gives you the capacity to learn from your mistakes as well as your successes. It enables you to keep growing.”– Lawrence Bossidy
Furthermore, label every good thing about yourself, when you do this you will start looking for those same good things in others rather than connecting with individuals because of a mutual weakness. Relationships and other entities formed because of a mere weakness or foundation of brokenness will fail quickly or remain toxic. However something formed and linked because of a mutual strength will thrive, grow and excel.
“Know your strengths not to determine if you’re worth it, but rather if it’s worth you.”–ME
“Humility is not about having a low self image or poor self esteem. Humility is about self-awareness.”– Erwin McManus
Psalm 139:24 “And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”
-Canesha J. Henry
